The Advantages of Aging
There has been a great deal written about the changes that occur in your body as you get older, but I’ll not dwell on that except to mention that many of these changes can be diminished, if not totally eliminated, by a proper diet and a dedicated an exercise program. But that’s another subject we will leave for later.
You can get the National Parks admission pass after you are 65 which will entitle you to free lifetime admissions to any of our national parks, for the price of just a single admission. That’s nothing to be sneezed at, since most national Parks charge $20.00 per day.
Many states offer a lifetime fishing license for seniors and an a substantially discounted rate. I’m not sure if that’s encouraging us to go on fishing or allow us to feed ourselves.
Seniors usually get discounts at restaurants and hotels but not at the gas pump. I guess they figure that since we usually drive less, we can need to pay as much as everyone else for their gasoline.
The most important thing you gain as you age is perspective. Then I need to explain that further. When you’re young you look at the world a young person’s viewpoint. Also you realize that everyone around you is bigger, stronger, faster, and more powerful. You think ” boy when I grow up, I’m going to do this and that.” After you become an adult however, your viewpoint changes and you rarely end up doing the things you decided to do as a young child.
Experience is a great teacher, probably the best one that we have. So as the years tick by, we are able to gain valuable experience is which helps us in many areas of our lives. We learned to anticipate outcomes both good and bad and help guide as through our lives. This is the way that our perception is slanted by the wisdom we have gained. We have
“been there, done that” often, many times.
Getting old is not for sissies, but it is better than the alternative. More later…
