HK Researchers Reportedly Developed Coronavirus Vaccine

As the world is fighting with the coronavirus, pharmaceutical companies around the globe are racing to find a cure. Meanwhile, researchers in Hong Kong claims to have made a major breakthrough in the development of the vaccine for the virus.

The Chairperson of Infectious diseases at the University of Hong Kong Yuen Kwok Yung in a press briefing at Queen Mary Hospital told the press that his team has successfully isolated the novel coronavirus but he said that vaccine will take months to be tested on animals and additional one year for human trials before it will be ready to be used for the masses.

The Vaccine on which the Yuen Team is working is nasal based.

“It will normally take 15 to 18 months to go from obtaining the DNA of a virus to getting an IND for neutralizing antibodies,” Chris Chen, CEO of Wuxi Biologics Cayman Inc. (as per his communication with Bioworld.com).

“Because of the possibilities of unexpected mutations, we cannot afford to follow the normal procedures, so we decided to compress the process to four or five months while complying with all the international standards.”

The company is aiming at a five-month mark for the development of new antibodies for the Novel coronavirus. The company already have worked very effectively and very quickly in the making of yellow fever and Zika virus antibodies.

Not only Yuen’s Hong Kong University team is in the rush to develop the cure for the coronavirus but many public and private companies are working on the vaccine.

University of Queensland, Johnson and Johnson, Norway based CEPI, Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc., Moderna Inc., Rockville, Novavax Inc, Co-Diagnostics Inc. and many more are working on the vaccine for the coronavirus and it is estimated that we will have the vaccine for coronavirus in record time.
