RMNPark Wildlife viewing
Last weekend Jacquie and her husband went for a hike in Rocky Mountain National Park; but so did half the Planet! Not really, but there were tons of visitors. Getting in was subject to a long wait, but fortunately we had a pass and were able to avoid a long delay. But that was only half the battle. At noon signs were posted declaring “All Parking lots full; return after 4 PM”. They were lucky to find a parking place at a little-used trailhead; and enjoyed a nice hike and fair weather. Although they missed their usual feeding of the gray jays, the wildlife was abundant, evidenced by fresh bear scat on the trail.
Driving to the north side of the park they encountered several groups of deer; several groups of elk. The viewing prize of the day was a black bear busily moving rocks, looking for ants or termites. He was located near a hairpin turn in the road; which resulted in quite a traffic jam! A park ranger was on the scene, and seemed to be protecting the bear from the throng of tourists.
Flavors of Colorado; Avon July 25th – 26th
Jacquie is making plans to attend the Flavors of Colorado Festival ( in Avon) the weekend of July 26 and 26th. This is a multi-dimensional event; featuring Food, drink, music and most importantly, Art. The festival will be held in Nottingham Park; and we’ll be on Artist’s Row. The hours will be 11:30-6 PM on Saturday and 11:30 – 4 PM on Sunday.
Please stop by and say hello; we’ll look forward to seeing you there.

Brand-New Tiger Painting- Mom and CubTiger MomCub-20Smallcopy

Jacquie has just finished a painting featuring a Bengal Tiger Mom and her 5 week-old
cub. She comments, “I imagined this was a first-time mother with only a single cub, which would improve her raising the cub to adulthood. The painting was created to depict the tender side of tiger behavior and motherly love.” Technically the painting provided some challenges, requiring new tools. “I used some new brushes, specially ordered from England, to draw lines as long as 23 inches. It was very enjoyable for me to use lots of brilliant, but realistic colors. The result was a very complex painting with fine definition over the entire canvas.”

Next up –A Tryptic; What’s a Tryptic?

We’d like you to know that a Tryptic is a series of three paintings designed to be shown together, in stead of one giant canvass. Jacquie is now planning to create a tryptic inspired by a documentary on the Himalayas and her vast collection of images that she and her husband have acquired for over 30 years.
Here is her vision:
Panel on the left: Two snow leopard cubs on a steep rocky slope.
Center panel: Female snow leopard climbing down the same slope gazing down at:
Right Panel: An Ibex grazing on the same slope unaware of being stalked.
We’ll let you think that over for a while, and let you know more in our next newsletter.
Stay tuned…..

The realistic wildlife fine art paintings and prints of Jacquie Vaux begin with a deep appreciation of wildlife and the environment. Jacquie Vaux grew up in the Pacific Northwest, soon developed an appreciation for nature by observing the native wildlife of the area. Encouraged by her grandmother, she began painting the creatures she loves and has continued for the past four decades. Now a resident of Ft. Collins, CO she is an avid hiker, but always carries her camera, and is ready to capture a nature or wildlife image, to use as a reference for her fine art paintings.
