Eidos-Montreal announced today via LinkedIn that it was laying off 75 employees, adding the company to the ever-growing list of game developers and publishers that are still announcing layoffs in 2025. According to its announcement, this is due to “one of our mandates” coming to an end, which could mean that a project these employees were working on has either finished or moved on to a new phase of production.
The announcement went on to say that Eidos would be unable to keep these employees on, saying, “We don’t have the capacity to entirely reallocate them to our other ongoing projects and services.” It added that this is not reflective of their talents or skills, and the company will support them through the transition.
The last time Eidos-Montreal laid off staff, it was due to parent company Embracer undergoing a massive restructure — it let 97 people go at that time. It also reportedly canceled an in-development Deus Ex game. Under the new structure of Embracer, Eidos is part of Middle-earth Enterprises & Friends, an entity comprised of triple-A game developers.
The company added in the announcement that it’s committed to delivering its other projects in development. At present, the only project Eidos-Montreal is confirmed to be working on is Playground Games’ Fable, for which it is a co-developer. The last game it launched as primary developer was Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy.
